All the procedures and esthetics that Adam Del Monte describes about mastering your guitar are difinitive and exactly to the point. Flamenco guitar is a lonely man’s instrument – only you can excell the patience and perseverance it takes to master your guitar. Record your playing as you progress – the recording does not lie to you – if it sounds good it is good, if it sounds poor or bad it is bad. Therfore you can improve by making corrections. (your recorder is your best most reliable critic and friend)

Speed, should be the last of your goal.
You must play the rythms and falcetas slowly – hundreds of times!
Go to falceta Tannerdoge to read the prerequisits I recommend, to become a flamenco guitarist.

Hi, as someone trying to learn how to play flamenco guitar, -and who could not progress much for long time with the guitar- these very good advices for me, now I’m trying to practice more carefully, and enjoying the time I practice, trying to master the techniques instead of worrying about my speed at this time, thanks a lot.

The question is about mastering Flamenco guitar.
I don’t know the answer.
But the question is interesting, with your permission, because the word ‘master’ reminds me a spanish word used in ‘tauromaquia’: Dominio. Dominio is mastering, but it happens not with science, with technique, with skill. It is a rare moment when people feel as a silence in the circle, when the gesture is as set on the air, even more: as given by the air.

And this is for the young guitar players: please remember that Flamenco guitarists have existed before the seventies.

Adam, your article was just what I needed to read today. I am a flamenco dancer but your advice applies to me equally as well. I love dancing but I can’t relax because I am so eager to get it “right” and be fabulous…. In my mind I think that if I am fabulous – people will see how much I love flamenco and I will be able to express all the deep emotions inside me through my dance. I am so stressed. I think I am keeping myself from learning. I will try to take your words to heart this week during practics. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
