Four $10k Flamenco Guitars

Written By: Cesar Serna

So what kind of Flamenco guitar can you get with a spare $15,000 in time for Christmas you ask? I asked myself that very same question. So I did a little research and found some very nice guitars. Now if I could only remember where I left my $15,000 at... hmmmm...

Conde Hermanos "Esteso" SP/CY - $14,000

Conde Hermanos “Esteso” SP/CY

The great-nephews of Esteso, Mariano and Felipe Conde, have designed and built this limited-edition model. Instead of being modeled on a single Esteso guitar, this instrument was designed after studying many original Esteso guitars, as well as various Esteso soleras, woods, molds, head drawings, rosettes, patterns, etc. that have been inherited by the Conde family.

Jose Ramirez SP/CY - $12,000

Jose Ramirez SP/CY

This particular guitar is a fantastic example of the Ramirez guitar craftsmanship, with a top built from four pieces, a rosewood fingerboard and a simple but elegant rosette. It is an exceptionally well-preserved and very playable example from the workshop of Jose Ramirez II. Very suitable to both collector and performer!

Conde Hermanos "1953 Vda. y Sobrinos de Esteso" SP/CY - $12,000

Conde Hermanos “1953 Vda. y Sobrinos de Esteso” SP/CY

This is the latest concert model from Felipe and Mariano Conde, and is a reproduction of a 1953 guitar built by their fathers - the earliest known guitar to feature the now-famous "media luna" headstock shape. It was created at the behest of GSI, after we viewed the original guitar in their shop recently.

Gerundino Fernandez SP/CY - $10,000

Gerundino Fernandez SP/CY

Gerundino is considered by many to be one of the best flamenco builders of the latter half of the twentieth century. His guitars have been played by many top players, most notably Paco Pena, Paco del Gastor and Juan Martin. This particular guitar from 1962 is a very rare find, and is one of the earliest examples still in existence.

Hi Mats. Did you send out any details of the guitar, or arrive at a price? I am also interested in a high quality old flamenco, especially with the pegs.
Anyone else who’s got one, please let me know.

Lionel

Mats,
I’m not an expert on values, but I am looking for a very good flamenco guitar and may be very interested in your Ramirez. Could you forward a few photos? Perhaps we could arrive at an agreeable price.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Tony Grieco
