I come late to this one and don't have near as many years as many of you playing.

But one thing I know will keep me going is the same as writing. Writers, and it is one of my hobbies, have to. Whether they are ever published or not they are impelled to do it. Music is much the same. And flamenco comes from the soul much like the blues. Considering their not dissimilar histories of coming from people bearing up under oppression, both speak to the human experience in much the same way.

I am in it for the enjoyment of the music. My chances of making any meaningful money from it aren't that great, so disappointment over that will never be an issue. One thing I hope to eventuallly do concerns my stepson. The fellow has also wanted to learn the guitar, though not Flamenco. He doesnt' know I've taken up the guitar, or if he does he doesn't think I'll ever play worth a damn. But he is real proud of being able to play the guitar on Guitar Hero! I intend to blow him away one day when he least expects by playing something exciting to him on a real guitar. That thought alone is very motivational!

But I am in it for the long haul.

That reminds me. I have a small tango exercise to go work on!

I am in the process of finishing my first draft of my first novel length work.

Just two chapters and an epilogue left. After I get at least another one or two under my belt and a decent revision I'll shop it around. There are no guarantees, but I am going to give it a try.

I have already seen a poem of mine make it into print in a college literary mag. So somebody thought my poetic writing good enough to print.

I have a small collection of short stories I've written. But only family have seen those works.

I had a decent practice with that Tango and a Solea exercise. One of the cords involves stretching my fingers in a way I am not used to yet. So the fatigue sets in fast. It gets even better since I am a lefty who is having to play right-handed. Adaptation to a right-handed world is nothing new to me. It just takes some patience and determination, both of which lefties learn early in life.

Chao!

Estan, Well I gave up writing after 3 published (at my expense) novels. My first two having a chapter weaving flamenco guitar into the story. I also wrote and printed up just for family the worlds funniest cowboy poetry. The cowboy poetry societies in power rejected it as it is like my flamenco ... old school. Old school arts don't have enough commercial value and I refuse to become either a writer or flamenco that is molded by what the modern profiteers shape me to be.

I still write flamenco letras in English for fun. My favorite work a Siguiriyas....

Very nice!

Maybe the time has come to widen the circle of readers a bit in the near future?

Do you know the posibility to let print a book nowadays one by one?
So, you can sell it eventually yourself, and let print,2, 10 or 100 only if you order?, much cheaper than in the past when you have printed 10000 at a time, and it was impossible to sell it yourself and you had to go to a publisher.

Saludos!
