Default La Bella Flamenco 820 Red Nylon

I just put a set of La Bella Flamenco 820, red nylon, medium tension on my Rosa and am liking the bright, brilliant, and feisty tone that comes out of them. I used the 2001 black nylon long ago until I ran out and couldn't find them.

For whatever reason, the lighter tension feels too soft to me now and I feel like I am punching through the guitar top, so these medium tension strings are better.

Funny you should say that. I'm interviewing a range of strings and my 'String of the Month' is a set of La Bella Red 820. When I first put them on they had a harsh, metallic, cold sound. But within 24 hours they settled to warm crisp tones. I must say I like the coloured treble strings. I can see them and find them easier to find (I have only been playing 11 months...) I also like the fact that they are a little thicker than the Luthiers that I have used all along. I feel more confident in a digging the thumb in for the 'Ould' sound... But sometimes change is not better, just different...

Guys,

I was going to post in the "introduce yourself thread" but I cant post because I need 5 replies. Oh well...

I'm new to the flamenco world and own a classical Guild C3 guitar. New to guitars period, I went straight into Flamenco

The time has come to change my strings. High E has gotten dead pretty much.

My question is about tension. For flamenco which tension is better? Medium or High?

Thanks so much in Advance.

I am do for a string change and will look for these strings. I stopped using LaBella because they had a unique tendency to break just before the gig started. It's weird, I would open my case and "pop". Or I would be tuning and then string break.

Hope we get to read the good and bad reviews of all the different strings you used.

It's funny how some things like that happen. My father has a beautiful 35mm camera. with a brilliant Carl Ziess lens. It took the softest/sharpest images I have ever seen. But... it only used one type of film. Perutz. All of the other films available would tear in the camera. Kodak, Fuji, Agfa... every one of them would split on a sprocket hole and the camera would need to go into a darkroom to have the film taken out... I have a weird theory that inanimate object like playing games with us...

I tried these D'Addario EJ45C Composites Normal Tension and at least on one instrument they are the best I have ever found. They started out losing pitch more so than most but once they settled they have lasted and lasted with a great clarity of ring (piano like) but with a brighness that is good for flamenco.

QUESTION #1

I just replaced by Lutheirs which were old to the EJ45 Normal Tension.
The strings seem to go out of tune really quick and I keep tightening them. Is this normal? Using an electronic tuner. After praticing last night, the B went to B sharp this moring. Anyone know whats up here? Is it because the strings are still new? and they need to stretch a bit further?

QUESTION #2:

The strings (steels) give off a more metallic sound as the nails hits it compared to the Lutheirs. I guess I have to get used to this or will this change after it's played a little more?

Thanks for any help in advance. Realizing how different strings can sound completely different.

Default Ej45c

It has been a couple of months and they still sound good. My memory is not as good as the strings. All I can remember is that pitch-wise they were all over the place and I was going to have it out with the owner of the small guitar shop that personally recommended them (a classical player) when they suddenly stopped the pitch shifting. Give them 2-3 days. I don't remember if they went up or down or all around. I just wanted to kill the guy. They did have a more metallic or (in my way of thinking) a brighter-raspier sound. I associate that sound with the best recordings I have heard others do or have done myself. I have only tried them on one instrument and all guitars are unique just like their owners. These might be perfect for my main axe but totally suck on my beach guitar. Unfortunately, it is all trial and error and eats time and money. There is no other way.

Over the years I have gone through several hundred sets of strings and the only ones I have had break was the A after I wore the winding off it in several places. Generally worse at the 2nd fret. I find the LaBella 820 black trebles my favorite with the D'Addario basses. I prefer the sound of the LaBella basses but they wear out in a few hours. I play them hard and use a lot of legato. The D'Addario sound more metallic, but last 10 times longer. I use medium tension only. The 820 red trebles are duller than the blacks IMO. I never liked the 2001's.
