After my last recommendation I tried some other strings: Galli Titanio (Hard Tension), LaBella B's, GHS (Doyle Dyke w/Wound G) and finally D'Addario EJ46C (with composite G).

To my ears and style of playing the Galli Titanio and EJ46C were the best. Both in terms of even tone, feel, responsiveness and allowing the beauty of the wood to come through. I have eventually settled on EJ46C however since the Galli D string tends to unravel prematurely toward the nut. I have had this happen on 3 different guitars. I have never had a EJ ever break or unravel and they are truly consistent and much cheaper than Galli. I may try the EJ45C as well for normal tension.

BTW: The EJC line is just a tad brighter to my ears than the EJ line but they do last and last.

OK I tried the La Bellas 820 and my D string broke in 5 days exactly. BUT I tell you you they sounded really good. hey sounded better than the D'Addrios but I'm finding out that each guitar will sound different. It's not the strings, it's the guitar. LOL!

I want to try Savarez next.

Default New Daniel Mari with the green label

Just put a set of these on my '03 Carrillo blanca , they sound great , the trebles are very clear and the basses brilliant , had been using Luthier 20 , but these are better on my instrument.

For recording, the "lightly polished" D'Addarios are very good as well. They don't last very long, but they squeak a lot less.

Default Luthier set up for specific string

Hola Todos,

My first post on this forum... I have been reading, great stuff, sounds like a bunch of experienced and knowlegable players. I haven't seen anyone else mention this, so I will add... when I bought my custom Blanca (Johnny Walker Guitars, Bartlesville OK... yes, same as the bourbon), the luthier asked me "what type of strings do you use?" He actually did nut/bridge intonation to a specific string... he said it really makes a difference.

Per his recommendation & set-up I have been using only D'Addario EJ45, and this instrument is a sonic wonder as a proper Flamenca should be. After reading this, I will be trying the EJ45C with the transition G string, interesting variation with similar tensions... I think I will also treat myself to a couple sets of the T2 trebles for fun.

Hasta la Bamba, BD

I have used D'addario J45's mostly, but this week I put a set of Labella 820's with red trebles on. They have been on 4 days now. They are starting to settle in pretty good. First impression is good. I like that they are more flexible then the j45's.

I have tried in the past Hannabach, Labella 2001, but did not like either too good.

Default Vanity strings...

OK, have to admit (counter to Luthiers orders)I also ordered 2 sets of the LaBella 820 reds... I just want to see how they look, blanca flamenca con rojo... sound improvement would be an amazing bonus surprise. Stupid, I know... ah well
