Hey guys and gals,
Here's some stuff in Bulerias por Solea I composed about a week ago...still in the rough stages. Wanted to get some feedback though. I ended abruptly because the compas loop ran out ![]() Here it is: YouTube - Bulerias por Solea - Andy Culpepper |

Awesome Andy!
Nice tremolo, also the picado at 1:10 I liked a lot; Cool you can make your own stuff. ![]() You know there is a Study flamenco at the Conservatory in Rotterdam-the Netherlands? |

That was awesome
Did you really compose this piece on your own? However, I prefer it to be more energetic at some points or it may seems like an endless piece However, this is only my personal taste so I don't know whether my advice is good or not ![]() Regards! |

Cool, thanks guys. Yes I compose pretty much everything I play. If this ever makes it to recording, I think I will shorten it up a bit and add more "high points".

Sounds great .. what did you use for the backing track -- i.e. the palmas, the compas? Do you have a program or did you just find tracks of flamenco compas?

Thanks Josh, I made it myself by recording different tracks of me doing palmas and layering them together. It was a track that I used for an Alegrias on my CD, I just sped it up a little bit for the Bulerias por Solea.

Very well done and enjoyable beautiful easy listening. My preference would be to roughen it up a little, but this is not a criticism, just my preference. I would add some dynamics and pauses to give the Bulerias feel, as to me I hear more Solea and less Bulerias, however this may be your style and interpretation and that is what flamenco is, expressing what you feel, not what the listener prefers. I like the fact it wasn't another parrot performance. Keep at it, you have the right idea trying to develop original performances.

Sam,
Thanks for the kind words and helpful critiques. It means a lot to me. What I have recently realized is that I've been on a wild goose chase trying to get a Flamenco tone out of that guitar. It's just not happening, the guitar even though it "looks" like a Flamenco is really just a poor classical with cypress back and sides And it weighs about a ton. BUT I don't have to worry about that anymore because a luthier friend of mine, Richard Cogger, gave me a GREAT guitar in exchange for a few lessons (very generous). He made it as a replica of a Ramirez 1a and it has more Flamenco character in one string than 10 of my other guitar!!!! I'm crazy about it. I'll try to upload a recording in the near future. ![]() |
