Falseta, I completely understand the frustration with knowing you are being wondered at in nail salons. I use acrylic on my right-hand nails and go in about once or twice a month to get them redone. I got tired of the looks, giggles, and conversations about me in another language, so I brought my guitar with me, played a couple pieces, and they loved it.
Now I just bring my guitar with me every once in a while, and they do my nails for free!! The other customers love it, so I never even have to wait or make an appointment. God bless the flamenco guitar!! |

I also use acrylic, but after a while, the nails are kind of "going up" from play.. is it familiar to you?

You mean they get "worn out" from playing?
My thumb nail worns out faster than it grows, to avoid this I use superglue... I do not use acrylic nails. Payul |

If you want your nails as strong as steel, take 20mg of the B vitamin, Biotin each day.....
Then apply 3 layers of "Nailtiques" over each fingernail of your playing hand for added strength.... |

The best thing to do is to get them as straith as possible, and make the corners round.
If your technique is ok, your hand is straith down while playing so the biggest part of the nail hit the string. If you make your nail too pointy, the nail works as a claw, and you stick behind the strings Here is the hand from Gerardo Nunez Payul |

Here you can see two cut papers in the shape of a nail.
1 you see a straight cut, if bent as the shape of a nail you get a nice round curve that hits the strings. 2 you see a pointy cut, if bent as the shape of a nail, you get a kind of a hook. Also you see my right hand pretty straight nails, not too long. Hope this is a bit helpfull for you ![]() Payul Last edited by Payul; 08-21-2010 at 04:43 AM. |
