My guitar is made by Candelas in East Los Angeles.

Custom Built and Hand Made Guitar Makers and Luthiers - Custom Hand Made Acoustic, Classical, Spanish, Mariachi, Flamenco and Bajo Sexto Guitars

It was custom made for me several years ago. It still sounds great and plays great. Reading this posts though is making me want a second guitar around the house to give me a different sound for a different mood.

Maple for back and sides is now my choice. It has a nice growl on the basses and bright sweet trebles. This video might explain more. The guitar was only a few days old when I made this and now has opened up more which I didn't think was possible. Played open, no cejilla. Playing not real great as I did it after I got the guitar to document how it sounded.

Here is Jefferey Trapp playing it right after completion.

Anthony, That is myrtlewood and it sounds very much like maple. Stansell makes some interesting flamencos.

Jeff Sigurdson is the luthier who made my guitar, I know he does use maple in some of his flamencos.

As we live in Canada, the maples are cheaper than those made of more traditional Spanish cypresses and ceders.
But I've seen him push a little bit for people to go for the more expensive materials over the maple... I'm not sure if it's an upsell or if he thinks the materials superior.

If you follow the above-link you could email and ask his opinion.
