Default Favourite and Least Favourite Techniques?

Hey everyone, Cory here. Just wondering what your favourite and least favourite techniques are in flamenco!

My personal favourite are the 3 finger rasgueado, and the alzapua technique

My least favourite is the 4 finger rasgueado (Hate that pinky) and the classical tremolo (So difficult to do on every string but high E!). The 4 finger rasgueado because I don't like using my pinky finger, not enough power. And the classical tremolo for its difficulty to master.

How about you?

Regards, Cory.

I don't have my favourite technique because each technique is useful in its own way....I can only tell you that I'm most interested in alzapua....

I am pretty sure most people love the alzapua, it is probably the coolest technique in flamenco. It is one of my favorites too! My least favorite is the triplet rasgueado that includes the "e" "i" "p" movement. The pinky is so hard to gain power with!

Default Technique

Cory,

Please do not give up on the 4 fingered rasgueado. The reason that your pinky is weak is from a lack of practice. My pinky is still weak, too, but it is getting stronger.

It is so easy to say "I hate Physics" because maybe you don't practice math enough. However, once we get good at math, Physics might be fun.

It is the same with Flamenco! If you practice with your pinky by doing exercises at regular intervals everyday, you can increase your strength and get better. I would be willing to bet that you would love the 4 finger rasgueado once your pinky is strong.

As for me, I do not like the free hand rageos because I feel that I am doing them wrong. I hope to get some lessons from someone who knows how to do it well and then I will like it more. I know that when I hear it used correctly, it is brilliant. One day, when I master this technique, I will also love it.
