I'm finding as my nails grow longer they develop a slight downward 'hook' at the tip. Makes it aggravating to play picado, as they frequently catch up on the strings.

Do I have to go to acrylics to overcome this problem? Any other solutions out there?

have you tried ramping your nails? from what i've read this usually solves the problems. my own nails hook down a bit too.
