Default Suggestions for beginner guitar

Hey everyone,

I am new to Flamenco and am currently looking for a guitar. I have played guitar for several years, just not this style. I have heard good reviews about Yamaha's Flamenco line and the same with Lucida. I do not have a ton of cash to spend on a beginning guitar but also do not wish to "outgrow" it too quickly. My wife recently purchased a Lucida (classical) and it is a very nice guitar. However, I do not know if they are still producing their Flamenco line.

Any suggestions would be great. My price range is somewhere between $350 and $650. Thanks

Hello cdylws,

Welcome to the forum!

Since this is your first "Flamenco" guitar IMO I think you should get something that sounds and feels right to you. I have played the Yamaha's at the local guitar store and liked them. I think the sound is good and play well. The most important thing is that it feels right in your hands and sounds perfect to your ears.

My preference when selecting guitars is of course first foremost sound. I like a loud guitar that sounds great plugged in as well as unplugged. Secondly I look for weight the lighter the better for me. The last thing I look for is appearance and mostly because to me if it feels right and sounds great it can have all the nix, knocks and dents in the world. Although I do find myself partial to bright clear yellow wood stain.

Also take a look at Takamini and Cordoba.

Hope this helps!

I would chose the Lucida. I had one about 2003 and it was a nice flamenco for the money.
