Default Flamenco Jazz

Is anyone else sick of this Flamenco-light jazz thing? It's all starting to sound like Ottmar Liebert if you ask me. I'm ready for the next wave of Flamenco that gets back to its roots.

Default new stuff

I feel the same. I have tried and tried to listen to the modern stuff but it bores me to death. (I came close to a four year degree in Jazz too) I figured it would grow on me but it hasn't in three years I still like the old school stuff. To each his own--I just guess I am stuck in the past without a ride out but hey! I love it here!

Agreed.

I generally find myself listening to recordings no later than the early 70's.
I think that's the case because up to that time the majority of flamenco
fans wanted the puro stuff. Often I'll hear something and not like it because
"it doesn't sound gypsy enough". That's pretty much my criteria.

I want to become an accompanist, so my teacher said I really needed to seek
out recordings with singers and videos with dancers. Naturally, that makes me
look for the old style stuff.

I do listen to new stuff. I'm all for modernizing. In fact some of my favorite albums are from the last 10 years. As long as it has some attitude and grit, I'm ok with it. But as soon as I hear a flute or piano, I'm not buying it. I think it's that need for fusion that I'm not that into. I rarely think fusion works. I also think that the light-jazz atmospheric sound just doesn't work especially since the music is really about emotion and raw power and energy.
