As a brand new player I decided to treat myself to a new decent (£750) flamenco guitar to learn on. The guitar came already strung but the second string only lasted a couple of days so I bought a selection of medium weight strings and fitted my first set. I’m used to fitting strings on other stringed instruments so I’m confident I’ve done it correctly. I’ve now got two idiotically simple questions that I’d really appreciate some comments on.
1. The strings I’ve put on (D’Addario Pro-Arte Flamenco Composites (normal tension)) took days to stretch out and even now, after a couple of weeks, I’m finding that I’m having to tune up most strings before every session. Is this normal for flamenco strings?
2. I like the sound of the strings and they are relatively comfortable to play but when putting the capo on the second fret, I can’t get rid of the buzz. Now, I know a flamenco guitar is different by having a lower action and that most flamenco guitarists would be bothered by such a little thing as string buzz but it’s getting on my nerves. Even the slow, quiet bits have buzz. It’s not the capo – it’s brand new, good quality and designed for the flamenco guitar. Is this normal and if, so is there anything I can do besides getting a luthier to raise the bridge a touch?
Any help you could give would be very welcome
