Just wondering for those of you who are instructors if there is a minimum age for children in order to start teaching Flamenco dancing?
If you are a dancer at what age did you start? |

I have been teaching my nephews and niece at the age of 3 and 5 years of age. They are such sponges for knowledge.
Dance on! |

I started taking lessons when I was 12. I think it depends on the child's interest. If you see that they are interested even if they started at an early age (say 4 or 5) then continue their lessons. But do not force them if they don't want to. A good strategy would be to expose them to the art of Flamenco dancing as much as possible (that is if you really want them to be interested) then wait for them to ASK if they could take lessons. That way, you can be sure that they are really interested. That's what my mom did with me! LOL!!

Wow! Some of you really started at a very young age! But I'm not discouraged, I'm only 22 and I am really determined to learn Flamenco dancing ( hope my bones are not too brittle yet! LOL
) Right now I am looking for available scheds here in our area. I am soooo excited!!!! |

I agree with Stardust. It really depends on how early you developed your interest. It wouldn't help forcing your child to learn something they are not interested at. Right now I am also contemplating on rearranging my schedule so that I could squeeze in some lessons. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

I started flamenco dancing at the age of 43 and have been passionate about it for six years now. I take group classes twice a week and a private lesson once a week. The group classes are adults only, and there are wide range of ages that participate. I'm not the youngest in the class, but I am not the oldest either. If the interest is there, it's never too early or late to study flamenco.
