Flamenco in NE Connecticut
A small group of us, experienced amateur guitarists with both classical and flamenco interests, meet most Friday afternoons from 2-5 pm to play flamenco, also some classical guitar. We meet at the Mansfield General store in Mansfield Center, CT, an eccentric and unique old building that houses an antique store, a wonderful deli serving freshly made sandwiches, wraps, chili, etc, with seating and refreshments. We play some songs as a group (Sevillanas), improvising to fill in with each other's falsetas, and other songs we take turns playing a few minutes, then passing on to the next player until we run out of steam (Soleares, Seguiriyas, Bulerias, etc.). Usually we take some time for each person to play a solo, flamenco or classical, as they choose.
Occasionally a local dancer comes by and dances some Sevillanas, Farruca, Fandango, etc. We encourage local acoustic guitarists to bring their instrument and play something, so we can diverge from flamenco.
We especially love it when another flamenco or classical guitar player shows up! I send out a weekly email confirming that we'll be playing (some weeks we cancel if two or more of us are unavailable) and the location. If anyone's interested in being on our email list, send me a note: <thomas.milton.terry@gmail.com>. If you're in the area and would like to participate, we'd love to have you! If you're on the road and don't have a guitar, you'd be welcome to borrow one of ours.
