It took me years to find a teacher within driving distance, so I understand why on-line instruction is some times your only recourse.
After you've taken on-line lessons for a few months, it may be worth trying to attend a clinic so you can get face-to-face interaction with a teacher, preferably one on one or in a very small group. Good luck! |

I have found some good resources on youtube. There are a couple people who do a very good job at showing how to play certain movements.
I wanted to learn flamenco years ago, but couldn't find a teacher. Trying to teach myself out of a book didn't work very well. I recently came across a couple of video's on youtube, and have a renewed vigor to play. |

These are good. I use these in conjunction with books and a local teacher.

Honestly, I wouldn't waste time or money on an on-line course. The most important thing is right hand technique and I have yet to find anyone on-line who covers that correctly, can give you immediate feedback on what you are doing and can take the time to show you correctly.
For alot of flamenco you are really just playing classical guitar technique. (and that stuff is in many ways as hard or harder than the flashy flamenco technique) the rasgueados, golpes, tremelos, triplets etc. commonly associated with flamenco are the things you need from a teacher and I'd reccomend getting that stuff in person. Learning the tocques (styles) isn't all that difficult. It helps if you are listening actively and paying attention to how each different style sounds. Learning the 12 beat pattern for Solea, Bulerias, Alegrias etc. is essential but not rocket science. Everything else is available on line for free, either from youtube or tabs. Good luck, Stoney |
