Welcome aboard!
It was my dad who got me into flamenco music as a child back in the 60's, right about the time that Manitas de Plata released hie first album to the general public. I guess he'd heard something from it on the radio and it reminded him of the nights he spent in Spanish cantinas as a Navy sailor on leave back in 1953. He brought an acoustic guitar he'd picked up in a pawnshop and told us he was going to learn how to play flamenco music. He never did, But I never forgot it or the few pieces of music I've heard through the years and decided a few years ago to do it myself.
You should've heard his reaction when I played him a few short pieces over the phone a few months back! He is nearly eighty years old and never thought he'd hear it again, much less played on the guitar by one of his children. If I never make a dime from playing or the novel's I've written but haven't shopped around yet, where it plays a part, That one reaction will make all the work worth it! Though I don't intend on stopping there.
I hope you are playing it. You wouldn't believe the number of folks I've encountered online with a bit of a history like yours, long time guitar players who heard some flamenco music and took it up. Feel free to ask whatever and contribute what you learned in your research.
