Hello there, I'm glad to be a part of this forum! I'm from Southern California, I'm 20 and I speak English and Spanish. Enough about me. I'm a pretty decent classical guitar player, and my focus is on Spanish music of the Romantic era, e.g. Tarrega, Granados, Albeniz, etc. I love this music, and it's become my passion, but I have a strong desire to get into flamenco style. There are some similarities between the genres, especially in some of the works by Albeniz, and some flamenco techniques have made their way under the fingers of classical guitarists, like the rasgueado. I also enjoy listening to flamenco guitar, and have read a bit about it, so with that I have some exposure to the music, but now is the time for me to get my guitar and learn to play it, only I don't know where to begin..

This is where you begin!
Go TO YOUTUBE or a Sabicas Flamenco record - tune your guitar with a CAPO/CHEATER, to the recording - start playing along, Sevillanas and then Farruca.
You must listen intently and repeatedly to Flamenco guitar till you are blue in the face!
Make a tape or CD - play it in your car where ever you go - anytime the car is running!
This is a must - you must train your ear - your memory - your ear to coincide with your brain.
Until you can play / hear the tunes in your memory - transfer your memorized tunes to your finger picking, which you can enhance by repeated guitar fingerboard exercises and scales.
This is how I learned Flamenco besides taking lessons - I am 84 years, played flamenco on hundreds of stages for 30 years. I am fluent in Spanish and English lived and studied in Madrid and Cordova, and Sevilla. You can ask me anything you want to know.

If you are in Los Angeles you may enjoy the show at the El Cid dinner theater. I was there a couple of weeks ago. The place is on E. Sunset Blvd. in the Silver Lake area. Three dancers, a cantaore and guitar player.
