there is also a kind of tapping that is similar to typical palmas, which is 1 (2) (3) 4 (5) (6) 7 (8) 9) 10 (11) (12)
Paco de Lucia can be seen doing it: YouTube - Paco de Lucia - Almoraima Falseta - Bulerias (Good Quality)
Why use this type of tapping? anybody knows?

because it's paco, and it's hard and fancy sounding.

I think tapping in 2's is the best.

Hi Asfalios,

With all the respect, but if you going to "learn" to tap with your playing, you should consider to learn it in 3,s. The video from Paco de Lucia is tapped in 3's also. ( he accent the 3's with a silence...* ^^ * ^^ * ^^ )
Most people tap in 3's, or they tap the way the falseta goes.
In my oppinion 3's is more in the groove from bulerias.

Also I Think ( not sure about that) most falseta's are in 3's

So if you have this, * ^^ * ^^ * ^^ you can tap the * or, like paco does tap the ^^ both ways you tap in 3's.

i like to think of bulerias as sort of a poly-rhythm with 3 against 2. so tapping to your foot to either one should work. ideally, you should be able to do both.

anyways, tapping your foot is to maintain a super steady tempo, imo, not to find the groove. the groove is in your playing.

it's the same with playing against a metronome, it's not there to give you the groove, just to give a reference for tempo.

playing in two's is great because there's less space between the taps so there's less room to skew the tempo.

what paco does is at the level of the gods. you shouldn't worry about that yet.

oh well (: yeah, I agree (with gods), but that makes it even more interesting (:
I try to tap, whenever I do, in compas, since it is normally even easier than in 3's, as most falcetas usually obey to compas accents just as they do to 2's and 3's (when applied throughout). And tapping in compas helps to grasping the feeling of the rhythm as well.
