Stoney, Take a deep breath man and relax. I didn't set any rules nor can I enforce any. Caesar is the admin and takes care of that. It is apparent to me you are not acquainted with respectful forum procedure. You successfully hijacked a thread. Sometimes that just happens by accident, but you never even gave us your reasons for participating on this forum. Your first response was to degrade Serrano because a poster mentioned their teacher was a Serrano disciple. I think most will agree that is plain rude.
No, I will not debate such foolishness or waste my time on a debate that can have no good outcome. If you wish to discuss Serrano, start a new thread and give your opinion and let others respond to the discussion. |

Sam, I plead guilty to being an accessory to the hijacking of this thread. I agree that Stoney started the train off the tracks, and everybody else, me included, got caught up in the rush. Won't let it happen again. We should all be more careful and start a new thread if the situation calls for it.

Aurelio, No apology necessary. It wasn't the hijacking of the thread that bothered me as much as his reason for doing it. All replies to him were courteous and I think would have eventually turned more to the topic at hand, but he just kept pushing and making irrational statements. You can read this in another thread he started so he could make some more statements that had no truth to them at all. "I come from a land that preaches freedom, but I am denying him his freedom of speech." How did I or anyone deny him the privilege to voice his opinion. I am not a moderator or anything. Being a Senior member gives me no authority. If he wanted to voice his dislike of Serrano then start a post or join one where that is the topic. Someone mentioning their teacher is a Serrano disciple wasn't a question or a statement that needed addressing on this thread., however I answered him very nicely with my opinion on Serrano, not even mentioning he was hijacking the thread and he comes back pushing hard the reason he was joining the thread ... to bash Serrano and warn others to avoid this terrible player and teacher. I kindly answered his nonsense about the Am Bulerias with my opinion and suggested the thread was going in a wrong direction. This just brought on more nonsense. Then he starts another thread that appears with seemingly good intention (I never posted on it) and totally unprovoked he makes statements that have no truth to them at all. Calls me a dictator. Where did that come from?
So it looks like to me he did answer the question at hand and we now know why he is on flamenco forums. Not to share or learn, but to find fault with others and if anyone disagrees with him or points out his lack of basic respect, he makes all kind of insults. I have been on forums a lot of years and found out that trouble usually starts when threads get off topic. Then the personal insults start. This is a good example. |

Hey Frontera,
You called it right... hijacking a thread is not welcome here... Thanks for keeping a cool head... Stoney you are welcome to debate Serrano and all his talents and flaws but please do start a new thread for that... Members of this forum have strong opinions and loyalties to whom they respect... In my experience intelligent people eventually agree to disagree and those with weak arguments and those who seek to stir trouble eventually flee with their tails between their legs... Everyone in this forum is allowed to speak freely as long as it is respectful of each others intelligence and passion for Flamenco. All that being said I will leave this thread open for its intended purpose and topic... If this thread continues to stray I will close it down... Again I am not against debate as long as it is respectful and intelligent... |

I just got on this forum, and would cite reasons 1-8 for my part. This is the first forum of any kind i've ever subscribed to, so i'm sure my opinions will evolve accordingly, but my passion for flamenco will never be in question. With that said, the one true reason that this forum exists, and is successful, is passion, in all its beautiful, complex, painful, mysterious, personal, tragic, angry, joyous, sexy, playful, and creative forms. Flamenco...óle!! I gotta go pracitce for a performance on Thursday. Wish me luck!!
New Reason: Encouragement!! |

I play once a month at a place called Caffé Tazza in Tyler, Texas. It's a solo gig, and I play flamenco and latin-american music. I also play in a guitar duo, and we mostly play Latin-american and classical music, but we do play a few flamenco duets also. I am more of a flamenco player than my duet partner, so a lot of my solo playing (and practicing/studying) is devoted to this art form.
What about you? Or do we need to start a new thread to share this info?? Thanks for the well wishes, by the way! Un saludo flamenco...Aaron |
