Acclaimed dancer Andres Peña, from Jerez, Spain, will be performing with Caminos Flamencos during their 2007 Season performances and will teach 3 days of workshops in San Francisco. Each workshop day is designed to cover different material, in order to accommodate people’s interests and time.

Andres Peña was born in Jerez de la Frontera in 1976 and took his first dance steps at age 10. He continued formal studies under the guidance of master teacher Angelita Gomez, and went on to become an important dancer in many notable tablaos and dance companies, including those of Manuel Morao, La Chunga, Carmen Cortes in her performance of “Salome” and recently, Eva Yerbabuena in her shows, “Eva” and “5 mujeres 5″. Andres has collaborated with guitarists Jose Luis Monton and Juan Carlos Romero, with whom he continues to work. He has also appeared with singer Duquende in his show “Samaruco” and as a guest artist with dancer Juana Amaya.
For his participation in the competition “Jovenes Interpretes Flamencos” in the Bienal de Sevilla, Andres earned the award for best young artist (dance) in 2000. As a solo artist, he has gained critical acclaim in his appearances at the Festival de Jerez 2000 and 2001, in the 2002 Bienal de Sevilla, the Teatro Alameda, the 2001 Festival de Musica y Danza de Granada, and with the winners of the Concurso Jovenes Interpretes Flamencos.
As an instructor, Andres has taught throughout Spain in Madrid, Sevilla, Malaga, Cadiz, and Jerez de la Frontera and internationally in Norway, Greece, Italy, France, Germany, the United States, Great Britain, and Japan.
His artistic career has blossomed in recent years with the debut of his first show, “Pena,” which he brought to Brighton, Amsterdam, and Dusseldorf, with tours in Belgium, and with the Festival of Tolouse in France. His latest show, “A Fuego Lento,†was highly received in the 2006 Bienal de Sevilla and the 2007 Festival de Jerez. Having appeared as a guest dancer on two occasions at the New World Flamenco Festival in Irvine, California, Andres was subsequently invited by Yaelisa to present “A Fuego Lento†at the 2007 New World Flamenco Festival.
